Albukhary International University (AIU) successfully hosted the Zero Net Carbon Youth Leaders Programme from July 19 to 21, 2024. The event, organized by the Centre for Foundation and General Studies (CFGS) and the Corporate Communication and Marketing Department, involved 75 CFGS students as part of their coursework for the FSG112 Co-Curriculum and Leadership course. Under the guidance of Mr. Nidhoil Mohamed Ibrahim and Madam Aliaa Diyana Zamri, and supervised by AIU staff mentors, these students spearheaded the programme.
The event welcomed 120 participants from 18 secondary schools across Kedah, aiming to enhance their awareness and understanding of zero net carbon emissions. The programme also emphasized leadership, teamwork, and effective communication. Participants were grouped with peers from different schools and were facilitated by three CFGS students from diverse countries, fostering cultural exchange and providing memorable experiences.

One of the highlights was the amazing race, where participants explored the AIU campus while learning about zero net carbon. This interactive activity not only boosted their environmental awareness but also sparked interest in AIU Campus Life and Academic Programmes offered. The programme concluded with an exhibition where participants presented prototypes of zero net carbon classroom items, promoting recycling projects to reduce carbon emissions.

The success of the Zero Net Carbon Youth Leaders Programme underscores the importance of such initiatives in enhancing AIU’s visibility and increasing awareness of zero net carbon emissions among communities. Future events of this nature are anticipated to further these goals and attract more potential Malaysian student candidates.
