The School of Business and Social Sciences (SBSS) organized a full-day event on June 10, 2024, comprising two significant sub-events aimed at community engagement and promoting social business initiatives. The program sought to provide students with insights into poverty and entrepreneurship, reflecting Albukhary International University’s (AIU) commitment to social responsibility and education. This program was anchored under the Industrial/Community Project for Bachelor of Economics programme.

1. Community Engagement in Mukim Teloi Kanan, Baling

In collaboration with Mr. Effy Izzuan Bin Azni, Penghulu of Mukim Teloi Kanan, Baling, the first sub-event focused on community engagement with 10 underprivileged families in Mukim Teloi Kanan. The objectives were twofold: to expose students to the multidimensional aspects of poverty in Malaysia and to provide financial assistance to the families.

Students interacted directly with the families to understand their living conditions and the various factors contributing to their economic challenges. Financial aid was distributed to offer some relief to the families. The engagement provided students with valuable insights into the complexities of poverty and the importance of social responsibility.

2. Engaging Future Entrepreneurs at SMK Kuala Pegang, Baling

The second sub-event, titled “Close-up on Social Business: Engaging Future Entrepreneurs,” took place at SMK Kuala Pegang in the afternoon. Forty-two Form 6 students participated in this program, which aimed to introduce them to the concept of social business and AIU’s initiatives in this field.

Led by Madam Nur Arfah Abdul Sabian, Advisor for the EcoHarmony Group, from the Bachelor of Economics program, AIU students presented on social business initiatives and the 3 Zeros Club. The program included interactive sessions that discussed the principles of social business and its societal impact.

The event received positive feedback from the school’s principal and head program for the Pre-University program of SMK Kuala Pegang, who expressed interest in future collaborations with AIU. Madam Noor Jannah Afi and Ms. Siti Malaizzah also participated in the program to promote AIU’s local admission opportunities, further strengthening the university’s community outreach.

Positive Impact and Future Collaborations
