Albukhary International University (AIU) and the University Sarajevo School of Science and Technology (SSST) kicked off their first dialogue session, titled “The Russian Intervention in Ukraine – Perspectives from Political Science and Peace and Conflict Studies.”
Conducted online via Zoom on October 1, 2024, the session featured contributions from Asst. Prof. Dr. Emir Hadžikadunić, who examined the conflict from both Realist and Liberal viewpoints, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mikio Oishi, who approached the topic from a Peace and Conflict Studies perspective. The event was officiated by YBhg. Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Mohd Saleh Jaafar, the Vice Chancellor and President of AIU and moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Frederik Holst.
This inaugural session represents a significant step in enhancing academic dialogue between the two institutions, bringing together scholars and students to explore shared research interests, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in September 2023. It aims to pave the way for future collaborative initiatives, including more dialogue sessions and potential mobility programmes, similar to a recent collaboration between FAU and AIU.
Both institutions are committed to fostering collaboration in key academic fields, including Computer Science, Politics, and International Relations. SSST has also established ties to Malaysia through the Mahathir Professorship of Economics, currently held by Dr. Amer Demirovic, and through Asst. Prof. Dr. Emir Hadžikadunić, who previously served as Bosnia’s Ambassador to Malaysia from 2016 to 2020.
